Have you ever found yourself lying awake at 2 AM, wanting to sleep but your brain just won’t stop running? If yes, this article is for you.
Disclaimer – This article explores overthinking through astrology and planetary placements. If astrology doesn’t resonate with you, feel free to skip ahead.
I did a small research on Reddit - I asked users who identify as overthinkers to share their experiences. In this article I will keep using this reference. This is a small sample, not representative of everyone, but it gives us a glimpse into what placements often show up — and what overthinking feels like from the inside. A Real Story
There was a couple who lived in Delhi - let’s call them Priya and Shrey. They truly loved each other.
Both were loyal and trusted each other, but Priya had one weakness - her tendency to overthink. Every night, her mind replayed scenarios of things going wrong, like a plane crash simulation.
So each night she asked Shrey: “Do you love me?”
At the start, Shrey answered with patience and affection. He kept putting in effort to make Priya feel secure and happy.
But over time, he grew frustrated. No matter how much he reassured her, the doubts returned.
Eventually, he gave up and left.
Priya was heartbroken.
Who was wrong? Neither of them.
Priya trusted Shrey, but when her mind wandered at night, it wasn’t something she could control - even when she tried! Shrey showed patience for a while, but eventually, his tolerance broke.
Like Priya, many overthinkers don’t struggle because they want to - their mind simply doesn’t stop.
Overthinking as a Trait
Overthinking is a state where the mind goes into overdrive and slips out of your conscious control. It keeps running in the background, almost on auto-pilot.

It’s like driving a car without brakes - sitting in constant stress and anxiety, worried that a crash could happen any moment.
When I asked people to describe their overthinking, here are some of the most common responses:
- Persistent loops & analysis paralysis – the mind keeps circling back to “what if” and “why me,” making even simple decisions feel heavy.
- Restlessness & mental hyperactivity – nights become sleepless, and even during the day it feels impossible to slow the mind down or stay present.
- Anxiety & worry – a constant undercurrent of nervousness, sometimes spiking into panic without a clear trigger.
- Low mood & exhaustion – overthinking drains energy, leaving you feeling pessimistic, tired, and stuck in endless spirals.
- Guilt & over-feeling – replaying situations too much, feeling them more than you want to, and then blaming yourself for not being able to let go.
People around overthinkers often dismiss this as “unnecessary,” but the truth is: overthinkers hurt more than anyone else. They want to stop, but can’t.
The good news is that your birth chart can reveal whether you have a tendency toward overthinking. And once you’re aware, you can consciously work on it — and ask for help when needed.
So why do some people get stuck in these loops more than others? Astrology gives us an answer — through the Sun, Moon, and Mercury.
Mental Processing Unit – The Sun, Moon & Mercury

At turia, we call it as the SuMoMe Diagram. Think of your inner processing unit as made up of three key planets:
- Sun (Soul / Identity) – The core of who you are. A strong Sun gives identity, clarity, and inner strength. A weak or debilitated Sun can make a person torn between multiple identities, constantly seeking others opinions instead of trusting themselves - a big driver of overthinking.
- Moon (Mind / Feelings) – The center of emotions. It processes all inputs — happiness, sadness, peace, anxiety. If the Moon goes into overdrive, the entire mind gets restless and unstable. A debilitated Moon, Kemdrum Yog (Moon alone), or Moon with malefics like Saturn, Rahu, or Ketu can all trigger this.
- Mercury (Thoughts / Intellect) – The part that interacts with the outside world. It handles communication, rational thinking, and analysis. A strong Mercury gives clarity, but when weak (debilitation, combust, or joined with malefics), it turns into over-analysis and endless questioning — “why, what, how.”
Together, the Sun anchors identity, the Moon manages emotions, and Mercury organizes thoughts. When one or more of these are disturbed, overthinking follows.
The Malefic Influences
Certain planets, when linked with Moon or Mercury, are known to destabilize the mind:
- Saturn - Puts constant pressure, makes a person self-critical and judgmental.
- Rahu - Creates confusion, illusions, and restless thoughts.
- Ketu - Brings detachment and disconnection, leading to foggy or apathetic thinking.
When these malefic influences interact with the Moon or Mercury, overthinking doesn’t stay abstract - it starts showing up in everyday life.
And in our small Reddit study, certain placements came up again and again.
Common Overthinking Placements

Moon + Rahu
Moon (mind) with Rahu (illusion) feels like a buzzing machine that never shuts down. The mind constantly loops “what if” scenarios, often leaning into fear. Sleep gets disturbed, and imagination runs wild - but not always in a positive way.
Moon + Saturn
This makes the mind heavy. Saturn pushes constant self-criticism: “Did I do enough? Was that right?” It creates guilt loops and a constant sense of not being good enough. Unlike Moon-Rahu’s restlessness, Moon-Saturn feels slow, draining, and exhausting.
Moon + Mercury
These natives can be brilliant at research and analysis, but their peace suffers. They create endless scenarios in their head, over-analyze conversations, and struggle to “switch off.”
Moon + Ketu
This combination creates fog and detachment. Instead of replaying events, the overthinking here takes an existential turn: “What’s the point? Why me?” It often leads to sudden detachment, inner confusion, and hidden restlessness.
Moon in Gemini
A restless mind ruled by Mercury’s chatter. Even in silence, the thoughts run like a nonstop commentary. Many with this placement describe it as being mentally busy all the time, making true rest difficult.
Moon in Pisces
An imaginative, empathetic mind. These natives worry about situations that haven’t happened yet, replay conversations with exaggerated details, and even carry other people’s emotions as if they were their own. Their compassion turns into mental overload.
Moon in Scorpio
One of the most emotionally intense placements. Scorpio Moons feel deeply, but that depth often turns into obsession. They replay betrayals, past wounds, and power struggles, finding it hard to let go. Overthinking here is heavy and emotional.
Moon/Mercury in the 8th House
The 8th house rules the subconscious and hidden fears. With Moon or Mercury here, the mind naturally dives deep into analysis of life, death, secrets, and the unknown. This makes intuition strong, but also fuels over-analysis and hidden anxiety that’s hard to escape.
How to Deal With It
The most important step is awareness. Once you recognize overthinking as a trait, you can start being mindful of it. Change won’t happen instantly, but awareness is half the battle.

We don’t believe in giving random advice. What follows are simple steps you can actually apply in real life:
Write it Down
To take control of your uncontrollable thoughts, you first need to see them clearly.
Each night, write down what went well, what didn’t, and how it made you feel.
Over time, this helps you separate what’s in your control and what isn’t - breaking the endless loop.
Talk it Out
Find someone you deeply trust and share what’s going on. It takes patience on their part, but their role is to help you untangle your thought knots.
And if you feel stuck with no one to talk to, you can always reach out to us.
Step Away from the Phone
Phones have become more than tools - they’re escape machines. When you’re anxious, scrolling only postpones the problem.
Instead, avoid using your phone at least an hour before sleep and right after waking up. Give your mind space to breathe.
Allow Boredom
Don’t rush to fill every empty moment. Sometimes, sitting with stillness helps your brain process what it’s running from. Boredom can actually make you calmer and clearer.
Closing Note
This article isn’t just about placements. It’s about awareness. If you know where overthinking shows up in your chart, you can stop fighting it blindly. Instead, accept it as part of your nature, work with it, and eventually, turn it into a strength rather than letting it control your life.
